Femto.jl
Femto.jl is an open-source optimization framework written in Julia. It was originally developed at TU Wien to evaluate business models for energy aggregators of distributed flexibility options operating on multiple sequential electricity markets, including day-ahead spot markets, intraday markets and balancing markets (Schwabeneder et al. 2021, Schwabeneder 2021). For this purpose, the optimization framework has been used in several national and European research projects such as BestRES or Flex+. Since then, it has been expanded to be able to represent and optimize Energy Communities for the research projects BEYOND and ORANGE. Femto.jl allows a flexible composition of different households from different technology and flexibility options, including electricity demand, PV systems, batteries, electric boilers, EV charging stations and heat pumps. These households can be grouped into Energy Communities or Aggregator pools and optimized on different markets or with respect to different energy prices, grid tariffs, fees and taxes. Different tariff designs can be composed very flexibly from different tariff parts, such as constant, time-of-use or dynamic volumetric components, capacity components for the load, feed-in or both, and fix periodic or one-off payments.
